Chicago Car Accident Lawyers

Car accidents are a fact of life, in part to the ever-increasing traffic in our cities. All motorists, however, are responsible for driving safely, and those who fail to rise to this important responsibility make our highways more dangerous for everyone. If another driver’s negligence causes you to be injured in a car accident, obtain the professional legal guidance you need from our experienced Chicago car accident lawyers today.

Car Accidents and Driver Negligence

The Insurance Information Institute (III) shares several important statistics that relate to the role driver negligence plays in car accidents, including the following:

  • Speed plays the most significant role in fatal crashes. In a recent year, about 17 percent of all fatal accidents involved a motorist who was speeding. It’s important to note that driving at a safe speed is always relative to the condition of the road, including the effects wrought by inclement weather, low visibility, inadequate maintenance, and more. In other words, just because a motorist isn’t exceeding the posted speed limit doesn’t mean that he or she is not speeding.
  • Impairment is the second-most deadly form of driver negligence. Drugs and/or alcohol played a role in ten percent of all fatal traffic accidents in one year.
  • The third- and fourth-most death-defying acts engaged in by motorists are failing to remain in their own lanes and failing to yield the right-of-way, respectively. Together, these two dangerous forms of driver negligence accounted for 14 percent of all traffic fatalities.
  • Reports further indicate that driver distraction accounted for a full nine percent of all fatal car accidents. Their data focuses on those distractions that are most closely associated with accident involvement, including manually making calls, texting, and allowing one’s attention to focus on outside events.

There are obviously many kinds of driver negligence that make our roads more dangerous and make car accidents that much more likely.

Car Accidents and Resulting Damages

The damages associated with a serious car accident can be immense and tend to go well beyond property damage to your vehicle. Consider the following:

  • Medical Expenses – Medical costs for serious injuries can include emergency care, surgery and aftercare, hospitalization, doctor care, physical therapy and other forms of rehabilitation, and much more.
  • Lost Earnings – A serious injury can lead to lost hours on the job, lost earnings, and even a decrease in your earning potential into the future.
  • Pain and Suffering – Both the physical and emotional pain and suffering associated with a violent car accident can be debilitating and shouldn’t be overlooked.
